The National Portrait Gallery reopens in June

The National Portrait Gallery will reopen to the public on June 22 after closing down, due to the pandemic situation, on September 2021. It had temporarily closed its doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it had plans to reopen to the public in the near future. The Gallery had put measures in place to ensure the safety of its visitors, including limiting visitor numbers, requiring the use of face coverings, and implementing social distancing measures.

The National Portrait Gallery is an art museum located in London, UK, which is dedicated to portraying people who have made significant contributions to British history and culture, from the Tudors to the present day. The Gallery’s collection includes over 200,000 portraits, ranging from paintings and photographs to sculptures and drawings.

The National Portrait Gallery was founded in 1856 and it moved to its current location on St. Martin’s Place in 1896. The Gallery has undergone several expansions and renovations over the years, and it is currently closed for a major renovation project that is expected to be completed in 2023.

The Gallery’s collection includes portraits of some of the most famous figures in British history, including monarchs, politicians, artists, writers, musicians, and scientists. Some of the most iconic portraits in the collection include the Chandos portrait of William Shakespeare, the Armada portrait of Elizabeth I, and the portrait of Admiral Lord Nelson by Sir William Beechey.

In addition to its permanent collection, the National Portrait Gallery also hosts temporary exhibitions throughout the year, showcasing the works of contemporary artists, as well as historical figures. The Gallery also offers a range of educational programs and events for visitors of all ages.
